Project Value: $34M
As the Design-Build entity for this Design-Build project, Barletta hired VHB to be the Project’s Lead Designer. This project is a part of the redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station. The project constructed a new roadway between the towns of Rockland, MA and South Weymouth, MA. As the Design-Build entity, Barletta’s staff provided valuable input on constructability concerns and coordinated with the Design Engineers on finding resolutions to potential field problems. One of the components of this project was the installation of two pedestrian bridges across existing wetland areas that required the installation of piers in the wetlands, and a three-box beam bridge. During the demolition of an existing building, structural differences were discovered that varied from those shown on the building’s original drawings, requiring an immediate solution to keep the project on schedule. Barletta’s project staff worked closely with VHB’s engineers to revise the demolition sequence and the reconstruction of an existing wall that was to remain. These changes were made with no negative impact to the progress of the work or loss of time.
