Project Value: $450M
As part of a Joint Venture with CBNA (the US Division of the international firm Bouygues-TP), Barletta provided the local knowledge and expertise for this Design-Build project. The international design firm of AECOM was hired to be the Lead Designer for the Project supported by specialty sub-consultants of GEI, Beta, and Mueser Rutledge. During the Pawtucket Tunnel procurement phase and as part of the Design-Build process, there were proposed further cost and time saving Alternative Technical Concepts including raising the tunnel alignment by 25 feet, tunnel liner ring design alternatives, and relocation of the tunnel pump station and launch shafts. The tunnel is a 30 ft diameter rock tunnel, 115-ft to 155-ft below the ground surface, located north of the Bucklin Point Wastewater Treatment Facility in Pawtucket, RI, adjacent to the Seekonk and Blackstone Rivers. The tunnel is approximately 11,600 feet (~2.2 mi) in length with a 30-foot inside finished diameter. The Pawtucket Tunnel Project consists of a new tunnel and ancillary underground components including a launching shaft, receiving shaft, drop shafts, tunnel pump station shaft, and corresponding adit tunnels to support the functionality of a tunnel system to serve as a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) storage facility. The purpose of the tunnel system is to provide storage for all contributing overflows during a storm event (up to the three-month storm) for subsequent pump out and treatment at the Bucklin Point Wastewater Treatment Facility.
