Project Value: $21.3M
This project was delivered as part of the MBTA’s South Coast Rail Phase 1 program and was designed to improve pedestrian access to the New Bedford station. Procured by the MBTA for eventual ownership by the City of New Bedford, the project provides a safe, accessible connection across State Route 18 between the surrounding community and the station. The work included construction of a signature single-span tied-arch pedestrian bridge over Route 18, an elevator tower with two electric traction elevators, a stair structure with storage and utility spaces, and related site and landscape improvements. The completed bridge enhances connectivity, accessibility, and the overall user experience for residents, commuters, and visitors traveling to and from the region
