The MBTA Contracted with Barletta to be the Design-Build Entity for this project with the purpose of increasing safety, train speeds and capacity for the MBTA’s Red and Orange Lines. Barletta hired VHB to be the Lead Designer for this Design-Build Project. The complete signal overhaul undertaken by Barletta will make it easier for the MBTA to track speed allowances and repair signals when necessary. Additionally, these efforts make upgrading the MBTA’s fleet with the replacement of the 1970’s-based analog systems along both the Orange Line and the Red Line feasible, improving the commuter experience.
