MBTA Fairmount Line Rail and Bridge Replacements

Project Details

Project Value: $16.5M

This MBTA reconstruction project utilized Accelerated Bridge Construction for the Talbot Ave. and Woodrow Ave. railroad bridges, allowing for the existing bridges to be demolished and replaced in a 54-hour timeframe. Each new bridge was constructed in close proximity to the existing span and moved into place utilizing Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) during a weekend shutdown of the Commuter Rail line. The bridge work also involved construction of new reinforced concrete bridge piers, support of existing utilities, grading, drainage, traffic management, signal and power line relocations along the right-of-way, and preparation of new railroad track bed subgrades.
