Project Value: $11M
This project replaced the single span steel bridge structure constructed in 1898 that carried the MBTA’s Fairmount/Franklin Line Commuter Rail over the Northeast Corridor carrying Amtrak and Commuter Rail. Accelerated techniques were required to allow the bridge to be removed and then replaced during consecutive 54-hour weekend service outages of the Franklin Line. The first weekend service outage also utilized two consecutive nightly 4 hour service outages of the electrified Amtrak Line below the bridge to remove and replace the bridge’s superstructure using a 1,200 ton capacity crawler crane.
