As part of the $260 million I-90/Route 1A Interchange and MBTA Airport Station Project, Barletta constructed the Bremen Street Park in East Boston.  The largest park associated with the Big Dig, this 25 acre public area includes such multi-use features as:

  • Community Garden Plots
  • Spray and Wading Pools
  • Performance Amphitheater
  • Free standing sculptural pieces
  • Large open lawn spaces for picnicking and play
  • Permanent seating and tables for chess and checkers
  • Children’s Playground
  • Picnic Tables
  • Horseshoe Pits
  • Bocce Ball Courts
  • Public Restrooms and Drinking Fountains
  • 1½ miles of lighted paths and walkways, furnished with benches, wind around and through the site to connect pedestrians and neighborhood residents with public transportation and recreational facilities

Over 1500 shade trees and 12,000 shrubs supply continuous beauty and color throughout the seasons, and the open spaces provide the community’s families, walkers, joggers, and bicycle riders with an escape from the urban environment.  Neighborhood residents are afforded the opportunity to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers in one of the plots in the Community Gardens.

The East Boston Times-Free Press editorialized “A veritable ocean of park… the Bremen Street Park is as valuable as a ton of gold… the facilities, quite frankly, are fabulous.”
