Today

With Vincent F. Barletta serving as Chairman of the Board, the company is now in its fourth generation of family ownership. Today’s Barletta combines the best of its history and traditions with a talented, motivated, and experienced workforce and the leadership of a new generation. The mission of every employee is to provide each client with a safe, quality-built, professionally managed project. The solid reputation that Barletta builds upon today has been well earned. Vincenzo would be proud.

Over 100 years of Legacy in each project.

Barletta’s story spans more than a century of building infrastructure for New England. From a small contractor in Roslindale to a fourth-generation family company, each decade has added projects, people, and experience and deepened our commitment to the region we’ve spent a century building.

Together we build.

The infrastructure we construct outlasts all of us and so does the culture we’ve built around it. For over a century, Barletta has grown by finding people who take pride in hard work, show up for their teams, and want to build a career alongside projects that actually matter.

We hire engineers, project managers, superintendents, and field crews across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Whether you’re an experienced heavy civil professional or a student looking to get your first real look at how infrastructure gets built, there’s a place here for you.

Vincent Barletta

Chairman

Vin Barletta serves as Chairman of Barletta Engineering Corporation and Barletta Heavy Division, a fourth-generation family-owned construction company that has been building New England’s infrastructure since 1914. Founded by Vin’s great-grandfather, Vincenzo Barletta, Barletta has grown from a small contracting business into one of the region’s leading heavy civil and building construction organizations, earning a reputation for delivering complex transportation, bridge, highway, transit, utility, environmental, energy, and public infrastructure projects.

Over more than three decades in the construction industry, Vin has played a significant role in the company’s growth and evolution, helping expand its capabilities while maintaining the values that have defined Barletta for more than a century: hard work, integrity, quality, and safety, combined with a strong commitment to owners, communities, the environment, and the public. Through his leadership, Vin has helped guide the strategic direction of Barletta while fostering a family-oriented culture built on teamwork, collaboration, and long-term relationships.

Vin remains actively involved in both the construction industry and his alma mater, Northeastern University, where he serves as a member of its Corporation. He has served on the Board of Directors of Construction Industries of Massachusetts (CIM), including two terms as Chairman, and on the Board of Directors of the Utility Contractors Association of New England (UCANE), including serving as President. Throughout his career, Vin has been a strong voice on issues affecting the construction industry, working with public agencies, industry organizations, and elected officials to promote fair procurement practices, increased investment in public infrastructure, and effective project delivery. He is recognized as a respected industry leader who has helped shape policies that promote high-quality public works, responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and long-term improvements to the transportation and utility systems that serve communities throughout New England.

Today, Vin continues to support the strategic vision of Barletta, helping position the company to meet the evolving infrastructure needs of current and future generations while honoring the legacy that began with his great-grandfather more than 110 years ago. Through his industry involvement and commitment to the company’s core values, he remains focused on improving New England’s infrastructure while helping ensure Barletta’s continued success.

1914

Where it started

In 1914, Vincenzo Barletta, a recent immigrant from Italy, built the foundation of his own American Dream and established the V. Barletta Company in Roslindale, Massachusetts.

1930

Hard times. Harder work.

Vincenzo’s fledgling company grew slowly and despite financial setbacks, it persevered and worked through the lean years of the Great Depression. The hard work began to pay off; Vincenzo became an outstanding builder, winning an award for the Fall River Bridge, first of the many that his company would go on to earn over the years.

1945

Built for a nation at war. Ready for what came next

When World War II arrived, Barletta contributed immensely to the war effort, completing projects for the War Department, the Navy, and the Army Corps of Engineers. The company’s most impressive defense related achievement was the construction of the entire South Weymouth (Massachusetts) Naval Air Station in less than 24 months. In the heady post World War II boom, Barletta’s growth mirrored that of the Nation’s. Construction of infrastructure projects for Eastern Massachusetts such as the Fore River Bridge in Quincy, the Mystic River (Tobin) Bridge, the East Boston Expressway, and sections of the new Neponset Valley Sewer System were completed.

1958

A family tradition takes hold.

Carrying on a Family Tradition – Vincenzo passed away in 1958, leaving management of the prospering firm that bore his name to his son, Frederick. In the 1950’s and 1960’s Barletta continued to grow, and built segments of Route 128 (Interstate 95) around Boston, worked on the Neponset River Bridge in Quincy, and completed the entire downtown portion of the John F. Fitzgerald Expressway (the old Elevated Central Artery) including the Dewey Square Tunnel. With the sudden unexpected passing of Frederick in 1968, his young son Vincent inherited not only the company, but fortuitously, also a group of truly dedicated employees who shared their knowledge and expertise with their new president, insuring the company would continue to grow and prosper.

1970

From Boston's skyline to its highways.

During the 1970s, the firm, now known as The Barletta Company, completed a number of contracts at Boston’s Logan International Airport, including the creation of Bird Island Flats. Other projects included the construction of thirteen bridges on Interstate 95, the reconstruction of the Interstate 495 and 290 interchange in Worcester, Massachusetts, and completion of a pollution abatement and flood control facility for the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

1985

Going deeper. Getting bigger.

Through the 1980’s and 1990’s, the company moved almost exclusively into the field of vertical construction. Besides working on the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority’s massive Deer Island Treatment Plant facility, Barletta also completed many waste and water treatment plants and institutional buildings for local municipalities, and it was during this time that the Barletta Engineering Corp was formed.

2000

Barletta Heavy Division

Barletta Heavy Division was created in 1998 to increase focus on heavy/highway infrastructure projects.  In 2000, after a couple of years of staff growth, Barletta Heavy Division began building projects for the MBTA.  This new venture has resulted, to date, in more than 50 construction projects valued at 1.5 billion.

Today

Four generations in. Still breaking ground.

With Vincent F. Barletta serving as Chairman of the Board, the company is now in its fourth generation of family ownership. Today’s Barletta combines the best of its rich history and traditions, a talented, motivated and experienced workforce, and the dynamic leadership of a new generation. The mission of every individual employee is to provide each client with a safe, quality built and professionally managed project. The solid reputation that Barletta builds upon today has been well earned.
